Internal/R&D Division: Afro-Jotería Lab

Vision: To cultivate—from seed to sanctuary—the Association of Afro-Jotería Arts, Activism & Scholarship (AAJAAS): the world’s first academic and cultural institution devoted entirely to the Queer and Trans/2-Spirited intersections of Afro-Latinx, Afro-Caribbean, and Afro-Indigenous peoples and their lived experiences.

AAJAAS is envisioned as a transcontinental hub for Afro-diasporic creativity, re-imagination, and decolonial scholarship—fusing Taíno ancestry, Black Quantum futurisms, and Trans/2-Spirited storytelling. We foster a living network of thinkers, healers, artivists, and community leaders who transform research into ritual. We aim to redefine what scholarship can look like: embodied, performed, and unapologetically Black, Queer, and Taíno-Indigenous.

Public-facing offerings include the monthly VAMOS HABLAR INGLÉS podcast and a suite of three Trans* Conscious Leadership Workshops, each available for booking by organizations, institutions, or corporations. While the core research is internal, these programs offer the community a living window into the work behind AAJAAS. Our research, blogs, and podcasts manifest as real-time blueprints for this evolving legacy.
